Cooking Directions

  • STEP 1.To make the gatte, mix gram flour, spices, and oil in a bowl. Knead it into a firm dough.
  • STEP 2.Divide the dough into small portions and shape them into cylindrical dumplings.
  • STEP 3.Boil the dumplings in water until they float to the surface. Remove and keep aside.
  • STEP 4.To make the gravy, heat oil in a pan and add cumin seeds, asafoetida, and ginger-garlic paste.
  • STEP 5.Add tomato puree, yogurt, and spices. Cook until the oil separates from the gravy.
  • STEP 6.Add water and bring the gravy to a boil. Add the cooked gatte and simmer for a few minutes.
  • STEP 7.Garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot with roti or rice.

Cooking Tips

  • Make sure to knead the gram flour dough well to ensure the dumplings are soft and not lumpy.
  • You can add chopped green chilies for an extra kick of spice.
  • If the gravy is too thick, you can add more water to adjust the consistency.
