Burmese Split Chickpeas Fritters (be-gyun kyaw) This is a very versatile fried appetizer which we use as a snack or to make a salad out of this and can be used as one of the main course.plit channa is usually made with chick peas that have been split in half by hand. Because it can be labor intensive, yellow split peas is also used and sometimes called by the same name since it bears very similar resemblance to the chick pea (when split). Take a look here. Split channa is a crunchy snack that is usually fried then tossed in garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. It is sold in large bottles and is quite addictive once you get your hands on it. The protein content in split peas and chick peas makes this snack a healthy option, except for the fried part of course.

Ingredients for Fried Split Chickpeas Recipe

  • 500 gram split Chickpeas
  • 3 tablespoon Thai Rice flour
  • 2 tablespoon Tempura Batter
  • As required Salt
  • As required Msg
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder

Directions: Fried Split Chickpeas Recipe

  • STEP 1.Wash and drain the chickpeas.

  • STEP 2.The batter for frying- in a bowl, add 3tbsp rice flour, 2tbsp tempura flour, salt to taste, msg, turmeric powder, and sufficient water to mix all the ingredients well. The batter needs to be watery.

  • STEP 3.In a saucepan add water and boil the chickpeas until it is soft enough to eat. Cover the lid and let it cook.

  • STEP 4.Once it comes to a boil and is ready, drains the hot water and leave it to dry.

  • STEP 5.In the batter add the boiled chickpeas and mix them.

  • STEP 6.In a kadai, add the right amount of oil to deep fry, heat it at medium flame.

step 7

  • STEP 7.Spoon by spoon start adding the chickpeas and mix and it should cover the pan.

  • STEP 8.Once it starts floating turn it and fry evenly from both sides.

step 9

  • STEP 9.Take it out in a kitchen napkin to soak the extra oil and it is ready.

step 10

  • STEP 10.You can store it for a few days.
