Fried Idli Recipe

Recipe By Deepak Karunakaran
Using an air fryer is a great way to make a healthier version of fried idli with a similar crispy texture. The key is to use leftover, firm idlis and a little oil spray to get that perfect crunch.

Ingredients for Fried Idli Recipe

  • 0-1 nos leftover idlis
  • 0-1/2 tsp Oil spray or of oil
  • As required Salt and kashmiri chili powder or idli podi for seasoning

Directions: Fried Idli Recipe

  • STEP 1.Prepare the Idlis: Cut the refrigerated idlis into bite-sized pieces (quarters or thick fingers). Paste kashmiri chilli power mixed with salt on the idlis.
  • STEP 2.Preheat the Air Fryer: Preheat your air fryer to 380°F (190°C) for 5 minutes.
  • STEP 3.Toss with Oil: Place the idli pieces in a bowl. Drizzle with a little oil or give them a light spray and toss to coat them evenly.
  • STEP 4.Air Fry: Arrange the oil-coated idli pieces in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Cook for 8-12 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through. The time may vary depending on your air fryer model and how crispy you want the idlis. Look for a golden-brown and crispy exterior.
  • STEP 5.Season and Serve: Transfer the air-fried idlis to a bowl, sprinkle with your choice of seasoning (like chaat masala or idli podi), toss well, and serve hot with tomato ketchup
