One of the unique fish curries from south sees the use of Tamarind, that give the dish a nice tangy lift of taste. This simple, yet spicy fish curry sees happens to be a quick and easy one. Absolutely yummy, this fish curry sees the goodness of curry leaves and tamarind that’s both good for health. This south Indian style fish curry primarily from Kerala with a spicy tangy combination is a hearty meal. Made with basic ingredients this curry sees a nice red black colour curry. If you wanting some more texture to the dish some eggplants or potatoes could do magic.

Ingredients for Fish Curry With Tamarind Water Recipe

  • 1 kilogram Fish
  • 4 Onions
  • 4 Green chillies
  • 3 tablespoon Ginger garlic paste
  • 1 tablespoon Cumin seeds
  • 1/4 tablespoon Fenugreek seeds
  • 5-6 Cloves
  • 5 stick Small Cinnamon
  • 1.50 liter Tamarind juice
  • 1 teaspoon Turmeric powder
  • 3/4 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 teaspoon Red chilli powder
  • 2 tablespoon Coriander powder

Steps to prepare

  • STEP 1.Step 1- Wash the fish and then marinate the fish with some turmeric, salt and red chilli powder.

Cooking directions

  • STEP 1.Step 1- Dry roast some coriander, cumin, fenugreek, clove and make it into a powder.
  • STEP 2.Step 2- Make a onion, green chilli and coconut paste. In the meantime soak the tamarind.
  • STEP 3.Step 3 - Add oil in a pan and saute the paste, then slowly add the dry masalas' and let it cook till a nice aroma comes. Cook them well
  • STEP 4.Step 4 - Now add the tomatoes and place the fish in the pan. Dont disturb the fish.
  • STEP 5.Step 5- Slowly add the Tamarind water and once it comes to simmer add salt to taste.

Storage and serving method

  • STEP 1.Serve hot with some rice.

  • STEP 1.Take ½ onion,2 green chillies & coconut to make a paste.

  • STEP 2.In tamarind water add some salt and grinded powder.

  • STEP 3.Then add ginger garlic paste into the tamarind water and coriander powder.

  • STEP 4.Also add onion garlic chilli coconut paste & mix thoroughly.

  • STEP 5.Add oil in a kadai & heat it.

  • STEP 6.Add onions,green chillies,salt and saute it.

  • STEP 7.Now add turmeric,red chilli & coriander powder.

  • STEP 8.Mix it well.

  • STEP 9.Add tomatoes & then place the marinated fish in the kadai carefully

  • STEP 10.Now do not stir the fish even once with or without a ladle.

  • STEP 11.Cover and cook it at low flame for 5 mins.

  • STEP 12.Now add tamarind water and boil it at high flame.

step 16

  • STEP 13.Once it starts boiling then turn off the gas at low flame until oil separates.

  • STEP 14.Garnish with fresh coriander leaves.
