Feroce davocat is a specialty from the French Antilles that is based on salted cod, avocado and cassava. The term feroce (fierce in French) refers to the strength of the Caribbean chili pepper preparation in the feroce d’avocat, fierceness to be adjusted according to individual taste buds. Cod, grilled or poached, is incorporated to a mixture of avocado, chives, parsley and garlic and all of this spiced up with Caribbean hot pepper, also called habañero. This feeling of spiciness on your tastebuds is due to one active component called capsaicin. This substance is present in large quantities in the seeds of chili peppers, but also in all the fruit and the ribs. Its concentration determines the spiciness of the chili peppers.

Ingredients for Feroce D’Avocat Recipe

  • 225 gram salt cod , desalted
  • 1 No.s large ripe avocado
  • 225 gram cassava flour
  • 3 No.s scallions
  • 2 No.s West Indian chili peppers
  • 3 No.s cloves garlic , crushed
  • 1/2 bunch A parsley
  • 3 tablespoon sunflower oil
  • 1 No.s Juice of lime
  • As required Pepper
  • As required Salt

Directions: Feroce D’avocat Recipe

step 1

  • STEP 1.Boil cod in a pot and raisin it once it is cooked.

step 2

  • STEP 1.Cut avocado into half and remove the flesh and cut into large pieces.

step 3

  • STEP 1.Drizzle avocado flesh with lime juice to prevent from blackening.

step 4

  • STEP 1.Add parsley, avocado, cod, garlic, a small piece of chili and chives into a food processor.

step 5

  • STEP 1.Add cassava flour and oil while mixing. Season with salt and pepper. Refrigerate for 1 hour before serving.
