 A very luscious meal prepared from dried anchovies & rice kan bilis, or dried anchovies, are a popular snack in Singapore. Combined with peanuts and chilli paste, it's just the thing to have with a cold Tiger beer (Singapore’s local brew) and the salty flavours make a great prelude to a meal. It can also be served with the famous nasi lemak.

Ingredients for Dry Ikan Bilis Recipe

  • 2 cup Rice
  • 3 Nos pandan or screwpine leaves
  • As required Salt
  • 1/2 cup thick coconut milk
  • As required Root ginger
  • As required A Few Fenugreek seeds
  • 150 gram Ikan bilis
  • 1 Nos bombay onion
  • As required A Few Bombay onions rings
  • 10-20 dried red chillies
  • 1/4 teaspoon Salt
  • pinch A sugar
  • 1/2 tablespoon Vinegar
  • 1/2 cup Peanuts
  • As required Ingredients for garlic spice paste
  • 1/2 pod garlic cloves
  • 1 teaspoon prawn paste
  • 3 Nos galangal or candlenuts
  • 2 stalks serai lemon grass

Directions: Dry Ikan Bilis Recipe

step 1

  • STEP 1.Soak dry chillies in warm water,then grind and make a thick chilli paste

  • STEP 2.Cooking directions for coconut rice

  • STEP 3.1.add all the ingredients of coconut rice,with some water and cook it in the pressure cooker.

  • STEP 4.Cooking directions for ikan bills

  • STEP 5.1.first in a pan,add some oil and fry ikan bilis.

  • STEP 6.2.now make the sambal ikan bilis,add some oil and fry the onions in a pan until it slightly changes into golden in color.

  • STEP 7.3.add the garlic spice paste,chilli paste and heat it at medium flame until oil separates.

step 9

  • STEP 8.4.add salt as per taste.

step 10

  • STEP 9.5.cook the gravy until it turns dry.

  • STEP 10.6.add the onion rings,a few drops of vinegar and a pinch of sugar.

  • STEP 11.7.now when the oil separates add fried ikan bilis and roasted peanuts.

step 13

  • STEP 12.8.turn off the flame and serve.
