  • 1/25 teaspoon Turmeric Powder

Cooking Directions

  • STEP 1.Wash and soak the lentils for 30 minutes.
  • STEP 2.In a pressure cooker, add the soaked lentils, drumstick leaves, turmeric powder, and salt. Cook for 3-4 whistles or until the lentils are soft.
  • STEP 3.In a pan, heat oil and add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, and dried red chilies. Once the seeds start to splutter, add chopped onions and sauté until golden brown.
  • STEP 4.Add ginger-garlic paste and sauté for a minute. Then, add chopped tomatoes and cook until they turn mushy.
  • STEP 5.Add the cooked lentils and drumstick leaves to the pan. Mix well and simmer for 5-10 minutes.
  • STEP 6.In a separate small pan, heat ghee and add curry leaves and asafoetida. Pour this tempering over the dal and mix well.
  • STEP 7.Garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot with rice or roti.

  • Make sure to wash the drumstick leaves thoroughly to remove any dirt or impurities.
  • You can adjust the consistency of the dal by adding more or less water according to your preference.
