A very easy instant dessert prepared from bengal gram & coconut made in Goa during Christmas Eve. Doce de Grao or Chana Doce is a Goan sweetmeat prepared using Split Bengal Gram. This famed sweet is enjoyed by all Goans at any time as a snack or as a dessert. It is specially made to offer to friends and family at festive occasions and also religious celebrations. The popular preparation has a dry crust and is melt in the mouth and soft inside (this recipe is for the soft type). Another variant is completely dry / hard and is also enjoyed by some.

Ingredients for Doce De Grao Recipe

  • 3/4 cup Bengal gram
  • 1.50 cup fresh coconut
  • 1.50 tablespoon Ghee
  • 3/4 cup Sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon roasted cardamom powder

Directions: Doce De Grao Recipe

step 1

  • STEP 1.Soak bengal gram in water for 10 hours.

step 2

  • STEP 2.Boil bengal gram in pressure cooker for 3 whistles

step 3

  • STEP 3.Grind and make a paste of bengal gram

step 4

  • STEP 4.Grind fresh coconut separately and make a paste.
  • STEP 5.Add ghee in a pan and heat it. Now add grinded bengal gram , coconut paste and mix well.
  • STEP 6.Add sugar and mix well. Cook for 40 mins at medium flame.
  • STEP 7.After 40 mins the mixture will turn into a solid dough. Turn off the flame. Apply ghee in a plate and spread the mixture.
  • STEP 8.Sprinkle some roasted caradmom powder. Rest it for 8 hours and cut it into pieces.
