  • 1/4 cup Rice
  • 0.13 cup Lentils
  • 3/4 cup Water
  • 0.13 teaspoon Turmeric Powder
  • As required Salt To Taste
  • 1/2 tablespoon Ghee Or Oil
  • 1/4 teaspoon Mustard Seeds
  • 1/4 teaspoon Cumin Seeds
  • pinch A Pinch Of Asafoetida
  • as per your need A Few Curry Leaves

Directions: Dhal Rice(arisimparuppu) Recipe

Cooking Directions

  • STEP 1.Wash 1 cup of rice and 1/2 cup of lentils (toor dal) separately.
  • STEP 2.In a pressure cooker, add the washed lentils, rice, 3 cups of water, 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder, and salt to taste.
  • STEP 3.Pressure cook for 3-4 whistles or until the lentils and rice are cooked and soft.
  • STEP 4.Once the pressure is released, open the cooker and gently mix the lentils and rice together.
  • STEP 5.Heat 2 tablespoons of ghee or oil in a pan and add 1 teaspoon mustard seeds, 1 teaspoon cumin seeds, a pinch of asafoetida, and a few curry leaves.
  • STEP 6.Once the mustard seeds start spluttering, add 2-3 chopped green chilies and sauté for a minute.
  • STEP 7.Pour this tempering over the cooked lentils and rice mixture and mix well.
  • STEP 8.Serve hot with pickle or yogurt on the side.

Cooking Tips

  • You can add vegetables like carrots, peas, or beans to the lentils and rice for added nutrition.
  • Adjust the amount of water according to the desired consistency of the dhal rice.
  • For a richer flavor, you can add a tablespoon of ghee while cooking the lentils and rice.

Storage and Serving

  • Dhal rice can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.
  • To reheat, add a little water to the dhal rice and heat it in a microwave or on the stovetop.
  • Serve dhal rice as a main course with papad, pickle, or yogurt for a complete meal.
