Whole green moong dal cooked in dhaba style, flavoured with spices and simmered with cream or butter. Green moong dal makhni is a wholesome dal that is made just like the dhaba dal of Punjab. Made with green moong, this dal is served with missi roti and lauki raita for the weekend meal. This is a wholesome lentil curry flavoured with subtle Indian spices and simmered optionally with cream and butter which makes the dal nutritious and delicious.

Ingredients for Dhaba Style Green Moong Dal Makhani Recipe

  • 1 teaspoon Oil
  • 4 No.s Garlic chopped cloves
  • 2 inch Ginger chopped
  • 1 No.s Onion Finely Chopped
  • 1 No.s Tomato finely chopped
  • 1 inch Cinnamon sick
  • 1 No.s Bay leaf
  • 1/2 teaspoon Turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon Coriander powder
  • 1 teaspoon Garam Masala
  • 1 teaspoon Red chilli powder
  • As required Salt
  • 1.50 cup Green moong dal washed and soaked
  • 3 cup Water
  • 2 tablespoon Cream
  • 1 tablespoon Kasuri methi

Directions: Dhaba Style Green Moong Dal Makhani Recipe

step 1

  • STEP 1.In a pressure cooker heat 1 tsp oil, add 4 chopped cloves garlic, 2 inches ginger chopped and 1 onion finely chopped. Saute till onions are tender and soft.

  • STEP 1.Add 1 tomato finely chopped and mix well. Add 1 inch cinnamon sick, 1 bay leaf, ½ tsp turmeric, 1 tsp coriander powder, 1 tsp garam masala, 1 tsp red chilli powder, salt to taste and mix well to combine all the ingredients. Saute till tomatoes are soft.

  • STEP 1.To this add 1 ½ cup washed and soaked green moong dal and 3 cups of water. Pressure cook for 5 minutes and allow the pressure to release naturally.

step 5

  • STEP 1.Open the cooker and stir the dal. It will be soft. To make dal makhani add 2 tbsp cream, stir and simmer for a few minutes.

step 6

  • STEP 1.Lastly sprinkle 1 tbsp crushed kasuri methi and transfer the dal to a serving bowl.
