  • 0.33 cup Lentils
  • 0.67 cup Mixed Vegetables
  • 0.33 Onion, Chopped
  • 0.33 inch Ginger, Grated
  • 1.17 Lic Cloves, Minced
  • 0.33 teaspoon Mustard Seeds
  • 0.33 teaspoon Cumin Seeds
  • 0.67 Dried Red Chilies
  • 0.17 teaspoon Turmeric Powder
  • As required Salt To Taste

Cooking Directions

  • STEP 1.Wash and soak the lentils for 30 minutes.
  • STEP 2.Pressure cook the lentils with water, turmeric powder, and salt until soft.
  • STEP 3.Heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, and dried red chilies.
  • STEP 4.Add chopped onions, ginger, and garlic. Saute until onions turn golden brown.
  • STEP 5.Add chopped vegetables like pumpkin, brinjal, and drumsticks. Cook for a few minutes.
  • STEP 6.Add cooked lentils, salt, and water. Simmer for 10-15 minutes.
  • STEP 7.In a separate pan, heat ghee and fry curry leaves, mustard seeds, and cumin seeds.
  • STEP 8.Add this tempering to the dalma and mix well.
  • STEP 9.Garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot with rice or roti.

Cooking Tips

  • You can use a mix of vegetables like pumpkin, brinjal, drumsticks, and potatoes.
  • Adjust the consistency of the dalma by adding more or less water according to your preference.
  • For added flavor, you can also add a pinch of asafoetida (hing) while tempering.

Storage and Serving

  • Dalma can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.
  • Reheat the dalma before serving and adjust the consistency with water if needed.
