Cooking Directions

  • STEP 1.Rinse the lentils thoroughly and soak them in water for 30 minutes.
  • STEP 2.In a pressure cooker, add the soaked lentils, water, turmeric, and salt. Cook for 3-4 whistles or until the lentils are soft.
  • STEP 3.In a separate pan, heat oil and add cumin seeds, mustard seeds, and dried red chili. Let them splutter.
  • STEP 4.Add chopped onions, garlic, and ginger to the pan and sauté until golden brown.
  • STEP 5.Add chopped tomatoes, turmeric, red chili powder, and coriander powder. Cook until the tomatoes are soft and mushy.
  • STEP 6.Add the cooked lentils to the pan and mix well. Simmer for a few minutes until the flavors are well combined.
  • STEP 7.Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and serve hot with rice or bread.
