After consuming lots of snacks and sweets in the festival just like Diwali we think about healthy and nutritious food dishes. Dal khichdi should be on the top of list. It is wholesome, delicious and comfort food. Dal khichdi is made from rice, dals of your choice and spices. It goes well with curd, kadhi, papad or achar.

Ingredients for Dal khichdi Recipe

  • 0.13 cup Rice
  • 0.06 cup Tuvar dal
  • 0.06 cup Chana dal
  • 0.06 cup masoor dal
  • to taste Salt
  • 1/4 tablespoon Ghee
  • 1/2 tablespoon Oil
  • 1/4 teaspoon Mustard seeds
  • 1/4 teaspoon Cumin seeds
  • 1/2 pieces Cloves
  • 1/4 Inch Small piece of cinnamon
  • 1/2 Pieces Dry red chili
  • 1/4 teaspoon Crushed garlic
  • 0.13 teaspoon crushed green chilies
  • 1/4 Pieces Finely chopped onion
  • 1/4 Pieces Finely chopped tomato
  • 0.13 teaspoon Turmeric powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon Red chili powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon Garam masala powder
  • 1/4 tablespoon Chopped coriander leaves

Directions: Dal Khichdi Recipe

  • STEP 1.1) Wash and soak rice, tuvar dal, chana dal and masoor dal together for 30 minutes.
  • STEP 2.2) pressure cook rice and dal mixture along with salt, turmeric powder, ghee and approximately 3 cuos water.
  • STEP 3.3) In a pan heat oil. Add mustard seeds and cumin seeds. When crackles add cloves, cinnamon stick and dry red chilies.
  • STEP 4.4) Add crushed garlic and green chilies. Saute for sometimes. Add chopped onion and tomato. Saute until tomatoes tenders.
  • STEP 5.5) Add red chili powder, garam masala powder and 1 cup water.
  • STEP 6.6) When water comes to boil add cooked dal rice mixture and stir gently. Adjust salt. Add more water if required to get your consistency.
  • STEP 7.7) Cook until get desired consistency. Garnish with chopped coriander leaves. Nutritious and delicious dal khichdi is ready to serve
  • STEP 8.8) Serve with curd, achar and rice papad.
