A delicacy originating from the Indian sub continent, split urad dal is cooked with tomatoes, ghee, ginger, garlic, onion and spices like red chilli powder, garam masala cinnamon, dried red chilli, cloves and turmeric powder to enhance its taste, flavour and aroma. Enjoy this dish with steamed rice or indian flatbread.

Ingredients for Dal Kabila Recipe

  • As required Ingredients for dal
  • 1 teaspoon Ghee
  • 3 No.s Cloves
  • 1 inch Cinnamon
  • 3 No.s Dry red chilly
  • 1/2 inch Ginger finely chopped
  • 3 No.s Garlic Cloves Finely Chopped
  • 1 No.s Onion Finely Chopped
  • 1 No.s Green chilli slit
  • 1 No.s Tomato chopped
  • 1/4 teaspoon Turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon Red chilli powder
  • 1 teaspoon Coriander powder
  • 1 teaspoon Garam masala powder
  • 1 cup Split urad dal
  • As required Salt
  • As required Ingredients for Tempering
  • 1 tablespoon Ghee
  • 1 teaspoon Cumin seeds
  • 4 No.s Black peppercorn coarsely ground

Directions: Dal Kabila Recipe

step 1

  • STEP 1.In a pressure cooker, add 1 tsp ghee, 3 cloves, 1 inch cinnamon, 3 red chilly and saute for a few seconds. Add ½ inch ginger finely chopped, 3 cloves garlic finely chopped, 1 onion finely chopped and 1 slit green chilli.saute until onions are soft.

  • STEP 1.Then add 1 tomato chopped and stir for a few seconds. Add ¼ tsp turmeric powder, 1 tsp red chilli powder and 1 tsp coriander powder, 1 tsp garam masala powder and1 cup washed split urad dal and salt to taste.

  • STEP 1.Add 3 cups of water and stir well. Close the cooker and pressure cook for 4 to 5 whistles and allow the pressure to release naturally.

step 4

  • STEP 1.In a hot pan add 1 tbsp ghee, 1 tsp cumin seeds, 4 black pepper corn coarsely pounded. Saute till seeds crackle and aroma is released.

step 5

  • STEP 1.Open the pressure cooker and spoon the dal into a serving bowl. Spoon the tempering over the dal.
