Cooking Directions

  • STEP 1.To make the dough, combine wheat flour, salt, and oil in a bowl. Gradually add water and knead into a soft dough. Cover and let it rest for 30 minutes.
  • STEP 2.Meanwhile, cook the lentils in a pressure cooker until soft. Drain any excess water and mash them.
  • STEP 3.Heat oil in a pan and add cumin seeds, ginger, garlic, and green chilies. Saute until fragrant. Add mashed lentils, turmeric powder, red chili powder, garam masala, and salt. Mix well and cook for a few minutes.
  • STEP 4.Divide the dough into small balls and roll them into circles. Place a spoonful of the lentil filling in the center and fold the edges to seal. Repeat with the remaining dough and filling.
  • STEP 5.Steam the filled dough balls in a steamer for about 15-20 minutes or until cooked through. Alternatively, you can deep fry them until golden and crispy.
  • STEP 6.Serve hot with chutney or yogurt dip.

Cooking Tips

  • Make sure the lentils are well-cooked and mashed to a smooth consistency for the filling.
  • You can adjust the spice level according to your preference by adding more or less chili powder and green chilies.
