The two essential parts of a dal fry recipe are the boiled dal (tuvar or arhar) and the baghar. It is the baghar that gives taste to the dish. Basic ingredients needed for a baghar are ghee, cumin, heeng, onion, tomato etc. The dal is then garnished with fresh coriander and garam masala. This dish tastes best with fresh hot phulkas or steamed rice.
