Dal Dhokli is a very famous dish from Rajasthan and Gujarat. It is a perfect combination of spiced whole wheat flour Koftas simmered in spicy & sweet dal, this is a mouth watering and filling one-dish meal. All it takes is some pulses, wheat flour, spices and ghee in abundance. The famous rajasthani dish is very popular and is healthy as well.

Ingredients for Dal Dhokli Recipe

  • 1/4 cup tuvar dal soaked for 1 hr
  • As required Salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon Turmeric Powder
  • As required For Dhokli
  • 1/4 cup wheat flour
  • 0.06 cup Gram Flour or Besan
  • 0.13 teaspoon red chilli powder
  • As required Turmeric
  • As required Salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon Carom Seed or Ajwain
  • As required For Tadka
  • 1/2 tablespoon Ghee
  • As required A few curry leaves
  • 3/4 No.s cinnamon sticks
  • 1/4 tablespoon mustard seed
  • 0.13 tablespoon Cumin seed
  • 3/4 No.s Cloves
  • As required Asafoetida
  • 1/2-3/4 No.s whole Red chillis
  • 1/4 teaspoon cumin powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon coriander powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon red chili powder
  • 1/2 No.s Onions
  • 1/2 No.s Tomatoes
  • As required Ginger
  • As required Garlic
  • As required Lemon juice
  • As required Coriander leaves
  • As required Jaggery

Directions: Dal Dhokli Recipe

step 1

  • STEP 1.1. Pressure cook 1 cup of tuvar dal with some water , turmeric and salt for 3-4 whistles.

  • STEP 2.2. Churn the cooked dal with a hand blender.

step 3

  • STEP 3.3. Take wheat flour, gram flour, turmeric powder, red chili powder, ajvain and salt in a bowl.

  • STEP 4.4. Mix all the ingredients together and knead into a dough while gradually adding the water.

  • STEP 5.5. Let the dough rest for 15 minutes.

  • STEP 6.6. Form small balls out of the prepared dough, dust it in some dry wheat flour and roll it into a thin circle .

  • STEP 7.7. Drop the koftas in the dal, stir them well and cover the lid and pressure cook at medium flame for 1 whistle. Let the pressure release completely and then open the pressure cooker.

  • STEP 8.8. In a large pan heat ghee and add some mustard & cumin seed, few whole red chilies, a few cinnamon sticks, cloves, curry leaves and asafoetida into it.

  • STEP 9.9. Add chopped onions and roast until it turns soft and translucent. Add in the tomatoes, ginger and garlic .

  • STEP 10.10. Cover with a lid and allow to cook until the tomatoes are soft and mushy.

  • STEP 11.11. Add in the spices, turmeric, red chili powder, coriander & cumin powder, garam masala and roast the spices for 1 min.

  • STEP 12.12. Pour the dal and dhokli mixture into the pan and stir well.

  • STEP 13.13. Add a dash of water to adjust the consistency.

  • STEP 14.14. Let it boil for 4-5 minutes.

  • STEP 15.15. Add some coriander leaves, squeeze in lime juice and dal dhokli is ready to be served.
