Directions: Cuban Stromboli Recipe

Cooking Directions

  • STEP 1.Preheat your oven to 190°C. Roll out the pizza dough on a floured surface to a rectangular shape, about 1/4 inch thick.
  • STEP 2.In a small bowl, mix the yellow mustard and mayonnaise to create a sauce. Spread the mustard-mayo sauce evenly over the rolled-out dough, leaving a small border around the edges.
  • STEP 3.Layer Swiss cheese slices over the sauce. Place the ham slices over the cheese. Add the roasted or pulled pork evenly on top of the ham. Arrange the dill pickle strips on the pork.
  • STEP 4.Carefully roll up the dough tightly, starting from one of the long sides. Seal the seam and the ends by pinching the dough together. Place the stromboli seam side down on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Brush the top of the stromboli with the beaten egg.
  • STEP 5.Using a sharp knife, make a few shallow slits on the top of the stromboli. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until the stromboli is golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped.

Cooking Tips

  • When brushing the seasoned oil onto the pizza dough, be sure to coat it evenly, right up to the edges.
  • Making shallow slits on the top of the stromboli before baking isn't just for aesthetics – it allows steam to escape during baking, preventing the crust from becoming soggy.

Serving Tips

  • Offer a selection of dipping sauces such as yellow mustard, garlic aioli, or a tangy Cuban mojo sauce on the side.
  • Serve the Cuban Stromboli with a refreshing side salad dressed with citrus vinaigrette, plantain chips, or yuca fries for a complete Cuban-inspired meal.
