This recipe originated in England, but it is very popular in American cuisine. It is a winter staple and is known to be super comforting. As this Swiss steak uses tomatoes, the dish pairs well with pasta, mashed potatoes, mushroom or any traditional gravy sauce. Directions: Crock Pot Swiss Steak With Tomato Soup Recipe

Cooking Direction

  • STEP 1.Cut the round steak into 6 to 8 serving-size portions. In a bowl, combine the flour, salt, and pepper. With a meat tenderizer, pound the flour mixture into the steak pieces, tenderising and thinning the beef as you pound.
  • STEP 2.Melt the butter in a skillet over medium heat. Add the chopped onion, bell pepper, and the coated steak pieces. Cook, turning occasionally until the steak is well browned. Transfer the steak pieces to the slow cooker.
  • STEP 3.Add tomato soup, water, vinegar to the skillet and stir to scrape up browned bits; pour over the steak in the slow cooker. Cover and cook on low for 5 to 7 hours. Serve and enjoy.

Cooking Tips

  • You can replace the condensed tomato soup or tomato bisque with a can of diced or stewed tomatoes.

Serving and Storage

  • Serve the dish with fluffy mashed potatoes, rice or noodles. Carrots, broccoli, and green beans are great options too.
  • You can store it in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
