Ingredients for Crispy Smashed Broccoli With Zaatar Recipe

  • 1.33 cup Bite size broccoli florets
  • 0.33 tablespoon Extra virgin olive oil
  • 0.33 teaspoon Za'atar
  • 0.08 teaspoon Garlic powder
  • 0.08 teaspoon Kosher salt
  • 1/25 teaspoon Ground pepper

Cooking Direction

  • Position oven rack 6 inches from broiler. Bring a few inches of water to a boil in a large pot fitted with a steamer basket. Steam broccoli until just tender, 3 to 4 minutes.
  • Preheat the broiler to high. Spread the broccoli on a large, rimmed baking sheet. Drizzle with oil and toss to coat. Space the florets evenly on the pan, then flatten them with the bottom of a mason jar or sturdy glass.
  • Combine za'atar, garlic powder, salt and pepper in a small bowl; sprinkle over the florets. Broil until hot and starting to brown, 4 to 5 minutes. Top each floret with a small dollop of yogurt before serving.

  • A cast iron pan is the absolute best tool for charring the broccoli.
