Ingredients for Crispy Fried Modaks For Ganesh Chaturthi With A Sweet Coconut Filling Recipe

  • 1/5 cup Rice Flour
  • 1/5 cup Water
  • 1/5 tsp Ghee
  • As required pinch of salt
  • 1/5 cup Grated fresh coconut
  • As required ¾ cup grated jaggery
  • 0.40 tbsp chopped almonds
  • 0.40 tbsp chopped cashews
  • As required ½ tsp cardamom powder
  • 1/5 tbsp poppy seeds
  • As required Oil
  • As required For deep frying

Directions: Crispy Fried Modaks For Ganesh Chaturthi With A Sweet Coconut Filling Recipe

  • STEP 1.In a pan, heat water with a little ghee and a pinch of salt. Once it begins to boil, lower the flame and then slowly add rice flour.
  • STEP 2.Mix it quickly until the flour soaks up the water and gets the shape of a soft dough. Cover and let it rest for a few minutes until it cools and is manageable to handle.
  • STEP 3.For the filling, cook some grated coconut and jaggery in a pan over a low flame until the jaggery melts and the mixture turns thick. Add some poppy seeds, chopped nuts and cardamom.
  • STEP 4.Transfer the prepared filling to a plate and let it cool down thoroughly. Avoid making it too wet, as a moist filling will make the modaks challenging to seal.
  • STEP 5.Knead the warm rice-flour dough until smooth and divide it into small portions. Roll each piece into a small disc, keeping the centre a bit thicker than the edges.
  • STEP 6.Place a spoonful of the coconut-jaggery filling in the middle. Collect the edges together carefully, pinch to seal and then shape into a traditional modak shape.
  • STEP 7.In a deep pan, heat oil over medium flame. Gently slide the filled modaks into the hot oil and fry them in batches until they turn evenly golden and crisp.
  • STEP 8.Remove the fried modaks onto a tissue paper. Let them cool down a bit and then serve as bhog or prasad.
