Crispy batter fried morsels of chicken served with a sweet and sour dipping sauce.Chinese chicken balls in batter, with a sweet and sour sauce. This was always one of my favourite Chinese take-out meals in the days when we used to get a takeaway. Now we just make our own favourite takeout meals at home. Quick and easy and at a fraction of the cost.

  • 2 Chicken breastscut into bite size chunks Nos
  • 1 Oil for deep frying ltr
  • As required Salt
  • As required Ingredients for marinade
  • 2 tablespoon Rice Wine
  • 1 teaspoon Sesame oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon Black pepper
  • As required Ingredients for batter
  • 3 tablespoon Sunflower oil
  • 325 milliliter Water
  • 350 gram Self raising flour
  • As required Ingredients for sauce
  • 100 gram Ketchup
  • 100 gram Sugar
  • 75 milliliter White Vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon Cornflour

Directions: Crispy Chicken Balls With Sweet And Sour Sauce Recipe

step 1

  • STEP 1.1 to marinate the chicken, in a mixing bowl place 2 chicken breasts cut into bite size chunks, add ½ tsp pepper,1 tsp sesame oil,2 tbsp cooking wine and salt to taste. Mix well together and keep aside to marinate for 30 minutes.

  • STEP 2.2 for the batter, in a mixing bowl add 3 tbsp sunflower oil, 350 gm self raising flour and gradually add 150ml water a little at a time, stirring continuously to avoid forming lumps. Mix well to form a smooth thick batter.

  • STEP 3.3 for the sweet and sour sauce, heat 175 ml water in a small saucepan, add 100 gm sugar, 75ml white vinegar, 100 gm ketchup, salt to taste, and 1 tbsp cornflour. Mix together well to ensure that no lumps are formed.

  • STEP 4.4 cook on low heat stirring continuously till sauce becomes thick and shiny. Remove from the heat.

  • STEP 5.5 next, place the marinated chicken in the bowl with the batter and mix well to evenly coat all the pieces of chicken.

  • STEP 6.6 in a wok heat 1 ltr of oil. When the oil reaches the correct temperature, a chopstick inserted in the hot oil will create bubbles.

step 7

  • STEP 7.7 at this stage add the coated chicken pieces to the hot oil one at a time to avoid them sticking together. Do not crowd the wok. Fry the chicken on batches.

step 8

  • STEP 8.8 fry on medium heat for 4 to 6 minutes till cooked through and evenly golden brown on all sides.

step 9

  • STEP 9.8 use a slotted spoon and remove the chicken from the wok. Drain off the excess oil.

step 10

  • STEP 10.10 let the oil on the wok on the heat for 1 minute .

step 11

  • STEP 11.11 then return all the pieces of chicken to the hot oil and fry again for 1 minute.

step 12

  • STEP 12.12 remove the chicken from the wok and drain off the excess oil.

step 13

  • STEP 13.13 serve the crispy chicken balls in a platter with the prepared sweet and sour sauce.
