Directions: Chou Farci Stuffed Cabbage Recipe

Cooking Directions

  • STEP 1.Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the whole cabbage and cook for 5 minutes, or until the outer leaves are tender. Remove the cabbage from the pot and let it cool.
  • STEP 2.In a large bowl, combine ground meat, cooked rice, diced onion, minced garlic, chopped parsley, salt, and pepper. Mix well to combine.
  • STEP 3.Carefully remove the outer leaves from the cabbage, being careful not to tear them. Place a spoonful of the meat mixture onto each cabbage leaf and roll it up, tucking in the sides as you go.
  • STEP 4.Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Place the stuffed cabbage rolls in a baking dish and pour the tomato sauce over them. Cover the dish with foil and bake for 1 hour.
  • STEP 5.Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until the cabbage is tender and the sauce is bubbly. Serve hot with additional tomato sauce, if desired.

Cooking Tips

  • Choose a cabbage with large, sturdy leaves for easier rolling.
  • Blanching the cabbage leaves helps to soften them and make them more pliable for rolling.
  • You can use any ground meat of your choice, such as beef, pork, or turkey.
  • Feel free to add other vegetables to the filling, such as carrots or bell peppers, for extra flavor and texture.

Storage and Serving

  • Leftover stuffed cabbage can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
  • To reheat, place the stuffed cabbage rolls in a baking dish, cover with foil, and bake at 350°F (175°C) for about 20 minutes, or until heated through.
  • Serve the stuffed cabbage rolls as a main dish with a side of mashed potatoes or crusty bread for a complete meal.
