Quite evidently, the culinary map of India changed with teh arrival of the Mughals in the country. From the evolution of the existing culinary gems to suit to their palates to the arrival of brand new culinary gems, the Mughals surely initiated a series of phenomenal events in the cuinary heritage of India. One such delectable culinary gem that cake to India was dopyaza or dopiaza. Originally invented in the present day Iran and Afghanistan, Dopiaza was brough to the country by the Mughals. Basically a rich and creamy gravy made with an onion-based sauce, dopiaza derives its name from the double addition of onions in teh gravy-in teh sauce and fried onion florets. This dish is a typical Bengali dish made with prawns. The succulent prawns along with the rich gravy make the dish a delectable delicacy to savour.

Ingredients for Chingri Macher Dopiaza (Prawn Dopiaza) Recipe

  • 1 teaspoon Cumin paste
  • 1 tablespoon Garlic paste
  • 1 tablespoon Ginger paste
  • 4 Onions
  • 500 gram Prawns
  • 1 teaspoon Mustard seed paste
  • 1 tablespoon Green chili paste
  • As required Mustard oil
  • 1 teaspoon Turmeric powder
  • As required Salt
  • 7-8 big size kochu pata

Steps To Prepare

  • STEP 1.Remove the outer area (shell) and wash the prawn well with lukewarm water. Chop onion and coriander leaves.

Cooking Directions

  • STEP 1.Now in a kadai, add oil and let it heat. Now add chopped onion and fry them a bit.
  • STEP 2.Now add ginger and garlic paste. Now add red chili powder 2 tsp, turmeric powder 3 tsp, salt according to taste, cumin powder 2 tsp, coriander powder 2 tsp, and cook them for 2 min.
  • STEP 3.Now add onion paste and chopped green chili and cook them for 4-5 min. Add 1 cup of water to it.
  • STEP 4.Now add prawns to it and cook them for 10-15 min and add water 2 cups. And cook it for 5 min, add the chopped coriander leaf and cover it with a plate and cook for 5 min so the water gets dry.
  • STEP 5.Your chingri macher dopiaza is ready.

Storage And Serving Method

  • STEP 1.Serve this curry with rice or any flatbread for a complete meal.
