Chinese Five Spice Chicken Recipe

A delicious stir fry of fried chicken marinated in chinese five spice powder with sauces and then tossed with red bell pepper and mushrooms. This oven-baked five spice chicken is an easy dinner we used to make on busy weeknights. With just 9 ingredients, it's easy to prepare ahead of time, economical, and most importantly, very tasty.

Ingredients for Chinese Five Spice Chicken Recipe

  • 500 piece Chicken breast cut into bite size gm
  • 2 tablespoon Sesame oil
  • 2 tablespoon Light soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoon Honey
  • 15 gram Ginger finely chopped
  • 2-3 Garlic crushed cloves
  • 1 teaspoon Chinese Five Spice Powder
  • 100 gram Plain flour
  • 1 Red Bell Pepper Sliced
  • 4 Chestnut mushrooms sliced
  • 1 inch Spring onions cut into s 3 Nos
  • 3 tablespoon Oil

Directions: Chinese Five Spice Chicken Recipe

step 1

  • STEP 1.1 in a large mixing bowl add 2 tbsp sesame oil, 2 tbsp light soy sauce, 2 tbsp clear honey, 1 tsp chinese five spice powder, 15 gm finely chopped ginger, 2 to3 crushed cloves of garlic and mix well.

step 2

  • STEP 2.2 then add 500 gm chicken breast cut into bite size pieces and mix well with the sauce mixture and keep aside to marinate.

  • STEP 3.3 remove the chicken pieces from the mixing bowl and place them in another bowl, without the marinating liquid.

  • STEP 4.4 add 100 gm plain flour to the chicken and mix together to evenly coat the chicken pieces.

  • STEP 5.5 in a wok heat 2 tbsp oil on medium heat and add the chicken pieces.

  • STEP 6.6 stir fry for 5 minutes, stirring to separate the pieces. Fry till chicken is cooked through and evenly golden brown on all sides.

  • STEP 7.7 use a slotted spoon to remove the chicken from the wok and drain. Keep the chicken aside.

  • STEP 8.8 heat another 1 tbsp of oil in the wok and add 1 sliced red bell pepper, 4 sliced chestnut mushrooms, white part of 3 spring onions cut into 1 inch pieces.

  • STEP 9.9stir fry for 2 minutes.

step 10

  • STEP 10.10at this stage more chopped ginger may be added to the wok (optional).

step 11

  • STEP 11.11then return the fried chicken to the wok and toss together.

step 12

  • STEP 12.12add the green part of 3 spring onions cut into 1 inch pieces and stir together.

step 13

  • STEP 13.13turn off the heat and transfer to a bowl.

step 14

  • STEP 14.14serve hot with rice.
