  • 3 tablespoon Oil
  • 2 inch Nos Ginger one s
  • 8-10 Garlic Cloves
  • 3 pound Beef blade steak cubed
  • 1 Chinese mandarain peel dried whole
  • 3 Bay leaves Nos
  • 3 piece Star anise
  • 1 Cinnamon Nos
  • 3 tablespoon Oyster Sauce
  • 3 tablespoon Light soy sauce
  • 3 tablespoon Fermented beancurd paste
  • 1 tablespoon Dark soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoon Pure sesame oil
  • 5-6 cup Water
  • 2 inch Daikon radish cut into large s 2 Nos
  • 3 tablespoon Cornstarch
  • 1/2 cup Water

Directions: Chinese Beef Stew With Daikon Recipe

step 1

  • STEP 1. trim and cut 3 tb beef blade steak into 2 inch cubes.

step 2

  • STEP 1. blanch the beef in a pot of boiling water for 5 to 10 minutes to get rid of impurities.

step 3

  • STEP 1.then remove the beef and rinse it under cold running water. Strain and keep aside.

step 4

  • STEP 1. preheat a wok and add 3 tsp oil, when the oil emits smoke, add 2 one inch pieces of ginger, 8 to 10 whole cloves of garlic, and 3 lb of cubed beef blade steak.

  • STEP 1. sear the beef on high for 2 to 3 minutes on each side till it is browned on all surfaces.

  • STEP 1. next transfer all the ingredients from the wok including the liquid, into a roasting pan.

  • STEP 1.add 1 whole chinese mandarain peel dried, 3 bay leaves ,3 pieces star anise, 1 stick cinnamon, 3 tsp oyster sauce, 3 tsp light soy sauce, 3 tsp fermented bean curd paste, 1 tsp dark soy sauce for color, 2 tsp pure sesame oil and 5 to 6 cups water.

  • STEP 1. cover the roasting pan with the lid and place it in an oven at 425 degree fahrenheit for 30 minutes and then reduce the temperature to 325 degrees for the next 2 hours.

  • STEP 1. peel 2 daikon radish and cut into large 2 inch pieces(4 to 5 cups) .

  • STEP 1.add the raddish 1 ½ hour before the stew is fully cooked. Spread it out on the top of the stew to allow all the pieces to absorb the flavour.

  • STEP 1.15 to 20 minutes before taking the stew out of the oven, add 3 tbsp cornstarch with ½ cup water and stir to thicken the stew.

step 12

  • STEP 1. when the beef has cooked soft and tender, take it out of the oven and serve.
