Protein rich Kerala sweet snack. Sweetened green gram tossed with coconut and sugar, this delicious dish can stand on its own as well. It is one of the easiest Kerala recipes. All it takes is jaggery, sugar, water, coconut and some roasted powder to prepare this navratri special sweet. The sweet can be served hot and enjoyed with the whole family.

Ingredients for Cherupayar Vilayichathu Recipe

  • 16.67 gram Jaggery
  • 1/25 cup Water
  • 0.17 cup Grated coconut
  • 0.08 teaspoon Crushed cumin seed
  • As required Green gram

Directions: Cherupayar Vilayichathu Recipe

Preparation Directions

  • STEP 1.Soak 1 cup green gram in 1 cup water for 3 hours. Drain out water.
  • STEP 2.Cook in a pressure cooker 1 cup soaked and drained green gram with 1 ½ cup of water and a pinch of salt for 1-2 whistles.

Cooking Directions

  • STEP 1.In a pan melt down 100gm jaggery in ¼ cup of water.
  • STEP 2.Sieve the melted jaggery into a separate cooking pan.
  • STEP 3.Add 1 cup grated coconut and ½ tsp crushed cumin seeds.Stir the mixture.
  • STEP 4.Mix the boiled green grams and cook for another 2 minutes.
