Healthy accompaniment to meal from Spinach leaves. Spinach Stir Fry flavored with ground turmeric and coconut. Cheera Thoran/Laal Bhaji thoran is a very simple and easy to make recipe which is loaded with lots of nutrition. Red spinach is known to have a range of health benefits and is known to be good for digestion, anemia and improving kidney function and overall immunity. Cheera Thoran is made from Red Spinach or Laal Bhaji (Red Spinach is referred as Cheera in Malayalam) along with grated coconut. It is a savoury side dish from God’s own country i.e. Kerala.

Ingredients for Cheera Thoran Recipe

  • 1 No.s Chopped Onion
  • 1 Curry leaves stem
  • 1/2 teaspoon Mustard seeds
  • As required Salt
  • 2 cup Chopped Spinach leaves
  • 2 No.s Green chilly
  • 2 tablespoon Cooking Oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon Turmeric powder
  • 1/2 cup Grated coconut

Directions: Cheera Thoran Recipe

step 1

  • STEP 1.In a pan pour in 2 tbsp. Add ½ tsp of mustard seeds and allow it to splutter.

step 2

  • STEP 1.Add 1 whole chopped onion 2 green chillies split in half. Saute till the onion becomes tender.

step 3

  • STEP 1.Then add 1 stem of plucked curry leaves and 2 cups of chopped spinach leaves. Mix well.

step 4

  • STEP 1.Add a pinch of salt and ½ tsp turmeric powder.

step 5

  • STEP 1.Cook on a medium flame for 3-4 minutes with the lid on.

step 6

  • STEP 1.Add ½ cup of grated coconut and stir well.

step 7

  • STEP 1.Again cook with the lid on for 1-2 minutes on medium flame. Turn off and serve hot.
