Ingredients for Chattambade Recipe

  • 1/4 cup Chana Dal
  • 1/4 Small Onion, Finely Chopped
  • 0.63 En Chilies, Finely Chopped
  • 1/4 inch Ginger, Grated
  • as needed A Handful Of Curry Leaves, Chopped
  • as needed A Handful Of Coriander Leaves, Chopped
  • 1/4 teaspoon Red Chili Powder
  • 0.13 teaspoon Turmeric Powder
  • As required Salt To Taste

Cooking Directions

  • STEP 1.Soak chana dal in water for 2-3 hours, then drain the water.
  • STEP 2.Grind the soaked dal along with ginger, green chili, and salt to a coarse paste.
  • STEP 3.Transfer the mixture to a bowl and add chopped onions, curry leaves, coriander leaves, and spices.
  • STEP 4.Mix well to combine all the ingredients.
  • STEP 5.Heat oil in a deep pan for frying.
  • STEP 6.Take small portions of the mixture and shape them into small balls or patties.
  • STEP 7.Carefully drop the patties into the hot oil and fry until golden brown and crispy.
  • STEP 8.Remove from the oil and drain on a paper towel to remove excess oil.
  • STEP 9.Serve hot with coconut chutney or tomato ketchup.

Cooking Tips

  • Make sure to soak the chana dal for at least 2-3 hours to ensure it becomes soft and easy to grind.
  • Do not grind the dal into a smooth paste, it should be coarse for a better texture.
  • You can adjust the spice level according to your preference by adding more or less green chili.
  • To make the fritters healthier, you can also shallow fry them instead of deep-frying.
  • Leftover chattambade can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2-3 days.
