  • 0.13 teaspoon Turmeric Powder
  • As required Salt To Taste
  • 1/2 tablespoon Oil

  • pinch A Pinch Of Asafoetida
  • 1/4 Onion, Finely Chopped
  • 1/4 teaspoon Ginger Garlic Paste
  • 1/2 Green Chilies, Slit
  • 1/2 Tomatoes, Chopped
  • 1/4 teaspoon Red Chili Powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon Coriander Powder
  • as needed Fresh Coriander Leaves For Garnish

Directions: Chana Dal Phare Recipe

Cooking Directions

  • STEP 1.Rinse 1 cup of chana dal under running water and soak it in water for 30 minutes.
  • STEP 2.Drain the soaked dal and transfer it to a pressure cooker. Add 3 cups of water, 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder, and salt to taste.
  • STEP 3.Pressure cook the dal for 4-5 whistles or until it becomes soft and mushy.
  • STEP 4.In a separate pan, heat 2 tablespoons of oil. Add 1 teaspoon cumin seeds, 1 teaspoon mustard seeds, and a pinch of asafoetida.
  • STEP 5.Once the seeds start to crackle, add 1 finely chopped onion, 1 teaspoon ginger-garlic paste, and 2 green chilies (slit). Saute until the onions turn golden brown.
  • STEP 6.Add 2 chopped tomatoes and cook until they become soft and mushy.
  • STEP 7.Now, add 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder, 1 teaspoon red chili powder, 1 teaspoon coriander powder, and salt to taste. Mix well.
  • STEP 8.Add the cooked chana dal to the pan and mix everything together. Cook for another 5 minutes.
  • STEP 9.Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and serve hot with rice or roti.
