Directions: Chana Dal-cheese Kofta Curry Recipe

Cooking Directions

  • STEP 1.Soak chana dal in water for 2-3 hours, then drain and grind it into a coarse paste.
  • STEP 2.In a mixing bowl, combine the ground chana dal, grated cheese, chopped onions, green chilies, ginger-garlic paste, coriander leaves, red chili powder, turmeric powder, garam masala, and salt.
  • STEP 3.Mix well to form a dough-like mixture. Shape the mixture into small balls and deep-fry them until golden brown and crispy.
  • STEP 4.In a separate pan, heat oil and add cumin seeds. Once they splutter, add chopped onions and sauté until golden brown.
  • STEP 5.Add ginger-garlic paste and cook until the raw smell disappears. Then, add tomato puree, red chili powder, turmeric powder, garam masala, and salt. Cook the gravy until the oil separates.
  • STEP 6.Add water to adjust the consistency of the gravy and bring it to a boil. Gently add the fried koftas to the gravy and simmer for 5-7 minutes.
  • STEP 7.Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and serve hot with rice or naan bread.

Cooking Tips

  • Make sure to soak the chana dal for a few hours to soften it before grinding.
  • While shaping the koftas, wet your hands with water to prevent the mixture from sticking.
  • To make the koftas healthier, you can also bake them in the oven instead of deep-frying.
  • Adjust the spice levels according to your preference by adding more or less red chili powder and green chilies.

Storage and Serving

  • Leftover koftas and curry can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
  • Reheat the curry and koftas in a pan or microwave before serving.
  • Serve the Chana Dal-Cheese Kofta Curry with steamed rice, jeera rice, or naan bread for a complete meal.
