A side dish from Kerala made out of Jackfruit. A Kerala classic served at the traditional Sadhya, this Chakka Erissery Recipe is a healthy diabetic friendly recipe. It has the goodness of raw jackfruits, that is tossed in spices and coconut to give it a lovely flavour. This delicious Sabzi/Erissery has Raw Jackfruit that is pressure cooked along with a spicy coconut masala is finished with a tempering of garlic.

Ingredients for Chakka Erissery Recipe

  • 0.83 cup Unripe jackfruit chopped
  • 0.08 teaspoon Turmeric powder
  • 0.33 Curry leaves stem
  • As required Salt
  • 1/4 cup Grated coconut
  • 1/2 No.s Garlic
  • 0.67 No.s Shallots
  • 0.08 teaspoon Mustard seeds
  • 0.83 No.s Green chilli
  • 0.83 No.s Dry red chilli
  • 0.33 tablespoon Coconut oil
  • 0.33 tablespoon Grated coconut
  • 1/2 cup Water

Directions: Chakka Erissery Recipe

Cooking Directions

  • STEP 1.Add 5 cups of unripe jackfruit, ½ tsp turmeric powder, a pinch of salt and 3 cups of water. Steam in a vessel with lid for 15 minutes.
  • STEP 2.Grind 1 tbsp grated coconut, 5 green chilly,4 shallots, 1 stem of plucked curry leaves and 3 garlic to form a fine paste. Mash the steamed jackfruit mix.
  • STEP 3.Add the gravy and mix well. Stir-cook for another 2 minutes and turn off the flame.
  • STEP 4.For preparing tempering,in a pan heat 2 tbsp coconut oil. Add ½ tsp mustard seeds. Let it splutter. Then add 1 stem of plucked curry leaves and 5 chopped dry red chillies and 1 tbsp grated coconut. Now transfer the tempering to the chakka erissery.
