Do you love chips? What a question is that? Almost everyone is fond of this packaged food, from children to adults, whether while watching a movie or just simple munching at home. But it is such a snack made by frying in oil, increasing your weight. In such a situation, keeping your health in mind, we have come up with a very easy recipe to make home-style jackfruit chips. They are also known as chakka chips and are a traditional crispy and crunchy snack made from jackfruit. They are baked and not fried hence wouldn't harm your health. Jackfruit is not only tasty in food but also full of nutrients. You can use it in the form of vegetables and pickles. Also, like bananas, you can use them as an excellent snack. The best thing about jackfruit is that its seeds are also rich in nutrients. Jackfruit chips is a well-known snack among Keralites. They are bulked stored and paired with a cup of chai, making evenings more delightful.

Ingredients for Chakka Chips Recipe

  • 0.63 cup Jackfruit
  • 0.13 teaspoon Turmeric powder
  • 0.13 tablespoon Salt
  • As required Coconut oil
  • As required Water

Steps To Prepare

  • STEP 1.Cut and remove the top and bottom parts of the chakka chula. Then, make a single vertical cut in the middle and remove the seed and chavini (white coloured strips).
  • STEP 2.Slice the chakka chulas into thin strips.

Cooking Directions

  • STEP 1.Take 1 ½ tsp salt in a bowl and add ½ cup water. Mix it well. Turmeric powder can be added for colouring accordingly.
  • STEP 2.Heat oil in a deep frying pan on high flame. Once the oil is hot, adjust the flame to a medium flame.
  • STEP 3.Fry the thin strips in batches. Add some turmeric powder to the oil.
  • STEP 4.When the chakka chips become crispy, add 2 tsp saltwater solution.
  • STEP 5.Transfer it to a paper towel or perforated utensil to drain the excess oil.
  • STEP 6.Chakka chips/chakka varuthathu is ready to be served.

Storage and serving method

  • STEP 1.Add the salt, pepper and turmeric powder to a big vessel.
  • STEP 2.Mix it well and add fried jackfruit chops. Now toss it well to coat the spices over the chips.
  • STEP 3.Now store them in airtight containers after removing them from the vessel.
