A crispy flatbread made from cassava (yuca) flour was at the center of the Taino diet. Casabe is a traditional is a Venezuelan thin flatbread made from an ancient plant native to northern parts of South America. The name comes from casabi the term used by native Arahuacos. Popular in Central America, Latin America and The carribean. Casabe is still popular food in Dominican households.

Ingredients for Casabe Recipe

  • 450 gram cassava, peeled and washed

Directions: Casabe Recipe

step 1

  • STEP 1.1 - grate the cassava and place it in a clean cotton cloth.

step 2

  • STEP 2.2 - squeeze it until you extract most of the liquid in it.

step 3

  • STEP 3.3 - spread the squeezed cassava on a baking tray and refrigerate it for 4 hours.

step 4

  • STEP 4.1 - heat a pan and add cassava to it.

step 5

  • STEP 5.2 - cook it for two minutes and make sure its evenly golden brown from all the sides.

step 6

  • STEP 6.3 - you can add parmesan cheese, garlic or salt according to your taste preference.
