Burmese Water Spinach Soup Recipe

Burmese people love soup and salads and thus they have plenty of variety to it. This water spinach is a healthy version of all the soup. Made with spinach, tomatoes, onion, garlic, shrimp paste, dry shrimp, tarmarind, white pepper, chilli powder and cooking oil this soup cn be served as an appetizer before lunch along with some crispy breadsticks.

Ingredients for Burmese Water Spinach Soup Recipe

  • bunch full water spinach
  • 2 Tomatoes
  • 1 large Onions
  • 3 cloves Garlic
  • 1 tablespoon Shrimp paste
  • 1/4 cup Dry shrimp
  • 1 cup Tamarind
  • As required Cooking Oil
  • 1 teaspoon Turmeric
  • 1.50 teaspoon Chili powder
  • As required White pepper as needed
  • As required Salt

Directions: Burmese Water Spinach Soup Recipe

step 1

  • STEP 1.Chop the onions and tomato into thin slices, mince the garlic and wash the spinach thoroughly with water.

  • STEP 1.In a saucepan add 2 tbsp cooking oil to heat, add the onions and garlic, saute them. Once the color starts changing of the onion and garlic add 1 tsp turmeric and 1 ½ tsp chili powder and saute them well with the onion and garlic.

  • STEP 1.Now add the shrimp paste and mix it well with the spices and veggies. Add some water and give it a good stir. Then add the chopped tomatoes and dry shrimp mix it well with the soup. Later add the water spinach, mix it well and add some more water. Cover it with a lid and let it cook until the water spinach evaporates its moisture.

  • STEP 1.Give it a good stir and add the tamarind juice, white pepper, salt to taste, and mix it well. Cook it for more than 2mins and give a final stir.
