A unique soup prepared from bitter leaf, beef, shaki, shrimp, catfish and other ingredients. Black soup was a regional cuisine of ancient Sparta, made with boiled pork meat and blood, using only salt and vinegar to flavour. The iron content from the ugwu ( pumpkin leaves) the hypertension reduction property of the bitter leaves and the scent leaves for it's anti inflammatory properties make this soup a great addition to your diet.

Ingredients for Black Soup Recipe

  • bunch A bitter leaf
  • 1/2 kilogram Beef
  • 1/2 kilogram shaki
  • As required Catfish
  • As required Shrimp
  • 2 Nos maggi cubes
  • 1/2 teaspoon Salt
  • 2 cooking spoon palm oil
  • 2 tablespoon grind crayfish
  • 1/2 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 1 Nos medium onion

Directions: Black Soup Recipe

step 1

  • STEP 1.Blend bitter leaf with onion. Clean and cut catfish. In a cooking pot add water and bring it to a rolling boil. Add in beef and shaki and cook until softens. Then add blend bitter leaf paste.

step 2

  • STEP 1.Now add cameroon pepper, crayfish and mix it. Cook and cover for 5 minutes. Add in palm oil followed by catfish. Then add shrimps and seasoning cubes. Mix and cook for 10 minutes. The soup is ready.
