A bengali style recipe of Urad dal with full of flavours a popular summer comfort dish which, if you ask any Bengali, would take them to journey back to their childhood. With its soup-like texture, supremely aromatic with coarsely crushed Mouri aka Fennel Seeds/Saunf and Aada Baata or grated Ginger, it makes the perfect accompaniment to Aloo-Posto and gorom Bhaat.

Ingredients for Biulir Dal Recipe

  • 150 gram Urad dal
  • As required Water
  • 12 gram Salt
  • 6 gram Fennel seeds paste
  • 20 gram Ginger paste
  • 15 gram Ghee
  • As required Vegetable Oil
  • 3 Dried red chilies
  • 2 Bay leaves
  • 2 Green chilies
  • 1/2 teaspoon Fennel seeds
  • 1 pinch Hing
  • 30 gram Sugar

Directions: Biulir Dal Recipe

step 1

  • STEP 1.Dry roast the urad dal until it turns brown

step 2

  • STEP 2.Wash the urad dal well

step 3

  • STEP 3.In a pressure cooker, add the urad dal,water and salt , cook for 2 whistle

step 4

  • STEP 4.Heat the pan with vegetable oil

step 5

  • STEP 5.Add dried red chilies, bay leaves, green chilies,fennel seeds, hing and temp

step 6

  • STEP 6.Add half of fennel seeds paste and ginger paste

step 7

  • STEP 7.Add sugar

step 8

  • STEP 8.Add the cooker dal and add rest of the fennel seeds paste and ginger paste

step 9

  • STEP 9.Boil and cook for 2 mins

step 10

  • STEP 10.Add ghee and mix

step 11

  • STEP 11.Serve with rice
