Bengali Style Fish Curry Recipe

Bengalis fame in cooking fish, both dried fish called "Shutki" (more present in East Bengali households) as well as fresh fish. Todays recipe is potatoes and beans fish curry in bengali style. This Bengali Fish Curry or Macher jhol is made with Rohu or Indian carp. It is delightfully spicy and tasty.

Ingredients for Bengali Style Fish Curry Recipe

  • 500 gram Any fish will work
  • 1 No.s onion finely diced
  • As required oil for frying e.g. sunflower or coconut
  • 2-3 tablespoon ginger garlic paste
  • 1 fresh chili
  • 480 gram Tomatoes
  • 500 gram new potatoes
  • 1 tablespoon tomato purée
  • bunch small green beans
  • 30 gram Coriander
  • 2 ling fish fillets
  • 1 Lemon
  • As required Salt
  • As required Pepper
  • As required Turmeric
  • As required Chili powder
  • As required Cumin paste
  • As required Coriander powder

Directions: Bengali Style Fish Curry Recipe

step 1

  • STEP 1.Coat the fish with turmeric, salt, and 2tsp of lemon juice and mix it well. Set it aside for 10-15 mins.

  • STEP 2.Now take a kadai and deep fry your fish from both the sides.

  • STEP 3.Fry it till golden and then turn it gently otherwise the crust may come out or the fish might even break.

  • STEP 4.Meanwhile, dice the potato and chop the beans. Now fry them well in a kadhai add ½ turmeric,½ chili powder,¼ black pepper powder, and salt to taste. Fry then well until the potatoes are golden in color.

  • STEP 5.Heat 2 tablespoons of oil in a good-sized saucepan, one with a lid. Add the onion and fry on a low heat for 10 minutes, stirring now and then.

  • STEP 6.Now add the ginger-garlic paste and saute it well.

  • STEP 7.Add the necessary spices- ½ turmeric, ½ chili powder, 1tsp cumin paste,¼ coriander powder, and salt to taste. Saute them well.

  • STEP 8.Add some water as required. Now add the potato and beans fry and cover it. Let it sit for 10 mins so that the potato gets to boil.

  • STEP 9.Now add the fried fish and shimmer the flame low, so that the curry gets inside the fish. An d let it sit for the other 10 mins.

  • STEP 10.Garnish it with some coriander leave and a 1tsp of lime juice.

  • STEP 11.Your delight and tasty potato beans fish curry is ready. Serve it with hot rice, take a green chili and you are good to go.
