Apart from the fewer spices used, both fresh grated coconut and coconut oil give this dish a remarkable flavor and taste – not to forget the taste & flavor of beans that also merges well with the coconut flavors. Gluten-free and Vegan. Thoran is a dry side dish made with various vegetables, coconut, onions and spices. Thoran recipe comes from the Kerala cuisine. Beans thoran is one such variation of thoran.

Ingredients for Beans Thoran Recipe

  • 250 gram Beans chopped
  • 3/4 cup Grated coconut
  • 1/4 teaspoon Turmeric powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon Chilli Powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon Cumin powder
  • 3 No.s Crushed garlic
  • 2 tablespoon Coconut oil
  • 2 No.s Dry red chilly chopped
  • 1 sprig Curry leaves

Directions: Beans Thoran Recipe

step 1

  • STEP 1.Take a deep fry pan and pour in 2 tbsp of coconut oil.

step 2

  • STEP 1.Add ½ tsp mustard seeds. When mustard splutters add 2 dry red chilly and a sprig of curry leaves.

step 3

  • STEP 1.Add in ¾ cup of grated coconut, ¼ tsp each of cumin seeds, chilli powder and turmeric powder.

step 4

  • STEP 1.Sprinkle a pinch of salt for taste. Stir well the ingredients.

step 5

  • STEP 1.Add 250 gm of chopped beans and mix well the ingredients.

step 6

  • STEP 1.Sprinkle a bit of water to avoid over cooking of beans.

step 7

  • STEP 1.Close the pan and cook for 3-4 minutes on low flame. Stir in between. Turn off the flame and the beans thoran is ready.
