Basundi is a sweet dish made in Maharashtra. It is condensed by boiling the sweetened milk on low heat until it becomes half of its initial volume. Basundi is an Indian sweet mostly in Maharashtra, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. It is a sweetened condensed milk made by boiling milk on low heat until the milk is reduced by half. In North India, a similar dish goes by the name rabri.

Ingredients for Basundi Recipe

  • 1.50 liter Whole milk
  • 1/2 cup Sugar
  • As required Cardamom powder
  • As required Dry fruits

Directions: Basundi Recipe

  • STEP 1.In a pan take milk and heat it on medium heat.

  • STEP 2.When cream begins to gather, stir well.

step 3

  • STEP 3.Mix the cream well with milk.

step 4

  • STEP 4.Repeat this procedure until milk is reduced to half of its quantity.

  • STEP 5.When milk reduces to half, add sugar and mix well.

step 6

  • STEP 6.You can decide the quantity of sugar as per your taste.

  • STEP 7.Cook for another 15 minutes.

  • STEP 8.Turn off the gas and add cardamom powder.

  • STEP 9.Mix well and basundi is already.

  • STEP 10.Though basundi looks a bit thin when hot, it will thicken up as it cools down.

  • STEP 11.You can garnish basundi with dry fruits or saffron too as per your taste.

  • STEP 12.You can serve basundi hot or cold too.
