  • 1/4 cup Urad Dal Flour

Cooking Directions

  • STEP 1.In a mixing bowl, combine barley flour, urad dal flour, and salt.
  • STEP 2.Add water gradually and mix well to form a smooth batter.
  • STEP 3.Allow the batter to ferment overnight or for at least 6-8 hours.
  • STEP 4.Grease the idly plates with oil and pour the batter into each cavity.
  • STEP 5.Steam the idlies in a steamer for about 10-12 minutes or until cooked.
  • STEP 6.Once done, remove the idlies from the plates and serve hot with chutney and sambar.

Cooking Tips

  • You can add grated carrots, chopped onions, or green chilies to the batter for added flavor.
  • Make sure the batter is not too thick or too thin. It should have a pouring consistency.
  • To check if the idlies are cooked, insert a toothpick or knife into the center. If it comes out clean, they are done.

Storage and Serving
