Aval Vilayichathu Recipe

Delicious and sweet snack.Aval Vilayichathu is a popular sweet snack of Kerala, made with beaten rice, coconut and jaggery. This is one snack to enjoy . The recipe I am sharing is the one I noted down while my Mom was preparing it.

Ingredients for Aval Vilayichathu Recipe

  • 33.33 gram Jaggery
  • 0.13 cup Water
  • 0.33 cup Poha
  • 0.17 cup Grated Coconut
  • 0.33 teaspoon Ghee
  • 0.33 teaspoon Sesame Seeds
  • 0.33 tablespoon Pottukadala or Chana dal
  • 2.50 No.s Black raisins
  • As required Coconut slices A few
  • 1/25 teaspoon Dry Ginger Powder
  • 1/25 teaspoon Cardamom Powder
  • As required Salt

Directions: Aval Vilayichathu Recipe

Preparation Directions

  • STEP 1.Heat a pan and add jaggery. Add ¾ cup water. Let the jaggery melt completely.
  • STEP 2.Filter the jaggery solution with a sieve.

Cooking Directions

  • STEP 1.Heat a pan, add 1tsp ghee and let it melt. Add 2tbsp chana dal. Roast it, then transfer it to a plate.
  • STEP 2.Add 2tsp sesame seed in the same pan and roast it. Transfer it to the same plate.
  • STEP 3.Add 1tsp ghee in the pan, add chopped coconut pieces. Roast it and transfer it to the plate.
  • STEP 4.Add 15 raisins in the same pan and roast it. Transfer it to the same plate.
  • STEP 5.Add the jaggery solution in the pan. Allow it to boil and attain 1string consistency.
  • STEP 6.Add 1cup grated coconut and mix well. Stir it for 3 mins. Add 2cup poha. Mix well.
  • STEP 7.Add ¼ tsp dry ginger powder and ¼ tsp cardamom powder. Mix well.
  • STEP 8.Add the roasted ingredients and mix well. Turn off the flame.
  • STEP 9.Aval Vilayichathu is ready to be served.
