Cooking Directions

  • STEP 1.Marinate the mutton pieces with turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt. Keep it aside for 30 minutes.
  • STEP 2.Heat oil in a pressure cooker and add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, and curry leaves. Saute until they splutter.
  • STEP 3.Add chopped onions and green chilies. Saute until the onions turn golden brown.
  • STEP 4.Add ginger-garlic paste and saute until the raw smell disappears.
  • STEP 5.Add the marinated mutton pieces and cook until they turn brown.
  • STEP 6.Add gongura leaves and cook for a few minutes until they wilt.
  • STEP 7.Add tamarind pulp, turmeric powder, red chili powder, coriander powder, and salt. Mix well.
  • STEP 8.Add water and pressure cook for about 4-5 whistles or until the mutton is tender.
  • STEP 9.Once the pressure is released, open the cooker and simmer the curry for a few minutes until the desired consistency is achieved.
  • STEP 10.Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and serve hot with steamed rice or roti.

  • You can adjust the spice level according to your preference by adding more or less red chili powder.
  • If you don't have access to fresh gongura leaves, you can use gongura paste or dried gongura leaves.
