  • 1/2 tablespoon Oil
  • 1/4 teaspoon Mustard Seeds
  • 0.13 teaspoon Fenugreek Seeds
  • as required A Few Curry Leaves
  • 1/4 Onion, Finely Chopped
  • 0.13 teaspoon Turmeric Powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon Red Chili Powder
  • As required Salt To Taste
  • 1/2 tablespoon Tamarind Pulp
  • 1/2 tablespoon Jaggery
  • 1/4 cup Water
  • pinch A Pinch Of Asafoetida

Cooking Directions

  • STEP 1.Wash and soak the hog plums in water for 10 minutes.
  • STEP 2.Remove the seeds from the plums and chop them into small pieces.
  • STEP 3.Heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds, fenugreek seeds, and curry leaves. Once they splutter, add chopped onions and sauté until golden brown.
  • STEP 4.Add turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt. Mix well.
  • STEP 5.Add the chopped plums and cook for 5-7 minutes until they become soft.
  • STEP 6.In a separate bowl, mix tamarind pulp, jaggery, and water. Add this mixture to the pan and cook for another 5 minutes.
  • STEP 7.Finally, add a pinch of asafoetida and mix well. Remove from heat.
  • STEP 8.Serve the Amtekai Gojju hot with rice or roti.
  • STEP 9.Cooking Tips: Adjust the amount of jaggery and tamarind according to your taste preference. You can also add a tempering of mustard seeds and curry leaves for extra flavor.
