A simple yet tasteful preparation of lentils, aamti is one of the Maharashtrian dishes that emerged from the Vidarbha region and spread to parts of Goa and Karnataka too.An appetizing Maharashtrian style dal made with yellow gram dal. Tempered with chillies, garam masala, curry leaves and mustard seeds.

Ingredients for Aamti Recipe

  • 1 teaspoon Oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon Mustard seeds
  • 1 pinch Cumin seeds
  • 1 pinch Asafoetida
  • As required Curry leaves
  • As required Finely chopped Tomato
  • 1 tablespoon Goda masala
  • As required Red chilli powder
  • 2 tablespoon Grated fresh Coconut
  • 2 cup cooked Tur dal
  • As required Water
  • 3 Kokum petals ~4
  • As required Jaggery
  • As required Salt
  • As required Finely chopped Coriander leaves

Directions: Aamti Recipe

step 1

  • STEP 1.Heat up oil in a pan. When oil is hot enough, add mustard.

step 2

  • STEP 2.When mustard pops up, add cumin seeds and let them also sizzle up.

step 3

  • STEP 3.Add asafoetida, curry leaves and tomato.

step 4

  • STEP 4.Fry the tomato for about 2 minutes. No need to cook them.

step 5

  • STEP 5.Add goda masala, red chilli powder and grated fresh coconut.

step 6

  • STEP 6.Fry for about a minute.

step 7

  • STEP 7.Add cooked dal and water. Mix well.

step 8

  • STEP 8.Add kokum petals. You can add tamarind if you want.

step 9

  • STEP 9.Add jaggery and salt to taste.

step 10

  • STEP 10.Boil on medium heat for about 5-7 minutes.

step 11

  • STEP 11.Add finely chopped coriander. Amti is already.

step 12

  • STEP 12.Amti goes well with rice and lots of ghee.
