  • 1/4 cup Split Yellow Lentils
  • 1/2 cup Water
  • 1/4 piece Raw Mango, Peeled And Cut Into Small S
  • 1/4 teaspoon Turmeric Powder
  • As required Salt To Taste
  • 1/2 tablespoon Oil
  • 1/4 teaspoon Mustard Seeds
  • 1/2 Dried Red Chilies
  • 1/2 Green Chilies, Slit
  • 1/4 tablespoon Jaggery
  • as needed Coriander Leaves For Garnish

Cooking Directions

  • STEP 1.Wash and soak the lentils for 30 minutes.
  • STEP 2.In a pressure cooker, add the soaked lentils, water, turmeric powder, and salt. Cook for 3-4 whistles or until the lentils are soft.
  • STEP 3.In a separate pan, heat oil and add mustard seeds and dried red chilies. Let them splutter.
  • STEP 4.Add the cooked lentils to the pan and mix well.
  • STEP 5.Add the raw mango pieces, green chilies, and jaggery. Cook for another 5-7 minutes.
  • STEP 6.Garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot with steamed rice.

Cooking Tips

  • Soaking the lentils helps in reducing the cooking time.
  • Adjust the amount of green chilies and jaggery according to your taste preference.
  • You can add a pinch of asafoetida (hing) while tempering for additional flavor.

  • Aam daal can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.
  • Reheat the daal before serving and adjust the consistency by adding water if needed.
