  • 1/2 teaspoon Salt

Cooking Directions

  • STEP 1.Soak the glutinous rice in water for at least 4 hours.
  • STEP 2.Drain the rice and mix it with coconut milk and salt.
  • STEP 3.Fill the bamboo tubes with the rice mixture, leaving some space at the top for expansion.
  • STEP 4.Cook the lemang over an open fire for about 2-3 hours, rotating the tubes occasionally.
  • STEP 5.Once cooked, remove the lemang from the bamboo tubes and slice into pieces.
  • STEP 6.Serve hot with rendang or curry.

Cooking Tips

  • Make sure to use fresh bamboo tubes that are clean and free from any mold.
  • To prevent the lemang from sticking to the bamboo, line the tubes with banana leaves or parchment paper.
  • If you don't have access to bamboo tubes, you can use aluminum foil to wrap the rice mixture and steam it instead.

Storage and Serving

  • Lemang is best served fresh and hot.
  • If you have leftovers, store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.
  • Reheat the lemang in a steamer or microwave before serving.
