Ward of Insomnia With This Poppy Seed Payasam

Insomnia, a rather common sleep problem, can have a substantial negative influence on both our general health and our quality of life. Insomnia can be defined as the inability to get asleep, remain asleep, or experience restorative sleep. Even though there are a variety of variables that can contribute to insomnia, such as anxiety, stress, and lifestyle behaviours, including homemade meals into your routine can be a healthy and efficient method to improve your quality of sleep.

Ingredients 

Poppy seeds 

Almond 

Cashew 

Coconut milk (freshly squeezed) 

Fresh grated nutmeg 

Jaggery/sugar to taste 

Method: Soak the almonds, now blend cashew and poppy seeds in a ratio of 1:1:1.5. In a pan heat some water, add the paste (consistency should be slightly runny) and add jaggery or sugar to taste. Let it simmer on low heat and the poppy seeds will start to expand and absorb water. After a few minutes, add the coconut milk, adjusting the thickness to your desired consistency. Let it simmer for another 2-3 minutes and then add around 1 tbsp freshly grated nutmeg. Serve hot! (or chilled if it is hot outside and you want a cold dessert).  

Other homemade remedies that can be beneficial for improving sleep include incorporating foods that are rich in tryptophan. Some examples of such foods are bananas, nuts, and seeds. These foods can help increase the production of serotonin and melatonin, which are hormones responsible for regulating sleep.
