Treat Your Toddlers With This Whole Wheat Jaggery Cake

Jaggery made up of sugarcane is also known as gur in Hindi. Jaggery has been reaping its benefits since ancient times. Ayurveda endorses jaggery uses for therapeutic and pharmaceutical purposes. But, do you know that jaggery is a natural, healthier substance of raw sugar? Jaggery is full of calcium, iron, magnesium, phosphorus, and potassium, beneficial for toddlers and kids. It is also packed with zinc, copper, riboflavin, Vitamin B, and antioxidants. No wonder eating jaggery in the winter season has many potential benefits. Following is the recipe for whole wheat jaggery cake that you can amass by including in your dessert.

Recipe for whole wheat jaggery cake

Ingredients you need:

  • 1 cup - Whole wheat flour or multigrain atta
  • 1 teaspoon - Baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon - Baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon - Cinnamon powder
  • 1 cup - Jaggery powder / thick syrup
  • Pinch of salt
  • ½ cup - Milk
  • ½ cup - Curd (whisked) / 1 Egg
  • ½ cup - Oil (vegetable refined / olive oil)
  • 1 teaspoon - Vanilla essence

Syrup Method: Boil water, add crushed jaggery, stir it till you convert it into a thick consistency. Cooldown and the syrup is ready. 

How To Make Whole Wheat Jaggery Cake: 

  1. Measure and keep all the ingredients on the kitchen counter ready.
  2. Preheat the oven to 180 degrees celsius. Prepare the batter.
  3. Take powder jaggery/syrup in a mixing bowl, and add milk.
  4. In the same bowl, add oil and water (if needed) and mix all for about 2 mins.
  5. Then add vanilla essence. Stir or give a hand whisk until jaggery is dissolved correctly. Also, mix the batter evenly till the oil mixes in it.
  6. On another side, filter out dry ingredients, take whole wheat flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon powder with a sieve.
  7. Now in the same bowl, add all the dry ingredients. Give a quick stir. Slowly pour curd in it.
  8. Gently combine the batter. The texture should be slightly thick.
  9. You can also add nuts such as raisins, walnuts, almonds, and apples to the batter.
  10. Transfer the batter into the oven/ baking tray and remove the bubbles by doing counter tapping.
  11. Bake the cake for around 30-40 minutes at 180°.
  12. Once it is baked, cool it down in the tray for 2 minutes and plate in your serving plates.
