A Rare Whiskey Made For The Royal Coronation Costs $25,000

Nobody does pomp and circumstance quiet like the British Royal family, and in the run-up to King Charles III’s Coronation, the whole country is pulling out stops to make the event unforgettable. Royal Salute is a brand of Scotch whisky that has a deep connection to the British monarchy. It was created in 1953 by Chivas Brothers to commemorate the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II, and the name "Royal Salute" is a reference to the 21-gun salute that is fired at royal occasions.

For the coronation of King Charles, they’ve gone the extra mile and created an exclusive blend of whiskey in 500 limited edition bottles named the Royal Salute Coronation of King Charles III Edition. Blended Scotch whisky is a type of whisky that is made by blending two or more different single-malt whiskies with one or more grain whiskies. The art of blending is a highly skilled and complex process, which involves selecting whiskies from different distilleries and combining them to create a balanced and consistent flavour profile.

“Crafting this blend has been the perfect occasion to reflect on the innovative approach we’ve taken to blending whisky for the past 70 years, and a moment to look forward to what can be achieved in years to come,” shared Royal Salute Master Blender, Sandy Hyslop in statement released by the brand. It’s crafted with 53 rare malt and grain whiskies which have all been aged for 21 years or more, a tribute to when the brand was born.

It’s said to have spicy notes with hints of figs and fresh ginger, very different from the blend that they created for Queen Elizabeth II’s coronation. The whiskey will be packaged in a decanter made from Dartington Crystal which has been tinted blue to reflect the jewels set in the imperial crown. It also comes with a bespoke wooden box that is inspired by Westminister Abbey and has engravings that represent the many coronations that have taken place there since 1066.

Only 500 bottles will be made of this rare libation, 56 of which will be sold in the USA. The rarity and the care with which its been made has made it an immediate collectors item and the highly coveted bottle will retail at a staggering $25,000 from mid-April.

Overall, Royal Salute is a brand of Scotch whisky with a rich history and a deep connection to the British monarchy. Its luxurious packaging, rare blends, and association with royalty have made it a favourite among connoisseurs and collectors alike and this new addition to their portfolio is turning heads like never before.
